Making Chateau DIY: Win the dream

As we start the New Year, I am now reflecting on 2025, and what a great summer I had. From May through September, I had the opportunity to be part of something truly special: the launch of  Chateau DIY: Win The Dream, a brand-new first series of a competition format.

Filming took place amidst the charming brocantes of rural France, where a small team came together to create something truly special where there was a quarter of a million-pound prize up for grabs. We had an amazing expert host Max, and a brilliant cast of amateur DIY enthusiasts from all walks of life. Watching these passionate people give it their all was truly lovely. Every day felt completely different, every challenge presented something new for our cast to navigate, every cast member took a different approach to each challenge with their visions and budget and every episode feels new as no two are alike – as the story producer it really was “the dream”.

As the Story Producer, I got to be right in the thick of it as I was overseeing all story points across 24 cast members at all stages of the competition. Working closely with Series Producer Ben and Executive Producer Joff, as well as the rotating team of PDs, we were able to ensure that all the narrative threads came together seamlessly.

Fairness was crucial and looking after both the cast and crew was a top priority, especially as we were bringing to life a show that had been in development for over six years! Seeing it all come together and shaping all the story threads was brilliant fun.

This year has presented its own challenges for me personally, as I’ve been navigating recovery from ill health. Taking on a new role while still on the mend made me nervous, but I’m so grateful I took the chance to do so. Spark Media’s patience, understanding, and genuine care made all the difference. The company goes above and beyond to support every team member, demonstrating so much kindness. I hope it’s a series I will continue to be a part of.

As someone with VERY little (well none) DIY experience, it did make me think about coming home to panel my wall..
