I’ve been working at Spark Media in the Richmond office for over a year now and during this time I’ve been impressed to see how much they care about giving back and the community around us. One initiative I’ve been directly involved in is supporting a local charity called the Vineyard Community. It’s an amazing set up dedicated to helping those
· Battling homelessness
· facing food poverty
· fleeing abuse and war
· in substance and mental health recovery
· crushed by loneliness
The partnership began when our lovely Head of Production, Helen, connected with David, the charity’s CEO, and saw an opportunity for Spark Media to get involved in a meaningful way as a local business.
Each month two members of our team volunteer at Vineyard Community’s Crisis Drop-in Service which runs every morning between 9 and 11 am. Here anyone in need can get a free hot breakfast and food to take away, access to shower facilities and computers, case work support and a chance to feel safe and part of a community.
It was during one of these sessions that I learned about the need for a regular weekly donation for an outreach meeting. With Spark’s support (they are paying for the ingredients) I’m now providing a home cooked meal for 12 people each week, which seems to have gone down very well and has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a small contribution, but it feels great to be able to support such an important initiative and make a tangible difference.
